Bespoke Picture Framing

I run a bespoke picture framing service. I offer high quality handmade frames to order, tailored to your personal needs. I offer frames of all sizes and styles, from high end specialist commissions to simplistic ones on a budget. With step-by-step involvement and advice we can find the best options for your artwork, photograph or object.

My custom services include the framing of: prints, paintings, drawings, textiles, certificates, photographs and frame repair.

The Importance of framing an artwork

Framing is a crucial part of experiencing an artwork. A well framed picture can light up a room and complement the art behind the glass. It is also very important that art is protected from the elements. So framing is the perfect way to both preserve and present!

My workshop and orders

Whilst being based in London, my framing workshop is in the North of England in Cumbria. This is where I have space for my beloved Morsø Mitre and have freedom to shift around large pieces of glass and wood. Of course this means that everything must be driven up, framed and brought down afterwards. So framing is done in batches a few times a year so ideally commissions need to be planned a few weeks in advance. My next framing shift is shown, and if in doubt please contact me to ask whether certain timing commitments are possible.

I offer a full and complete framing service: a consultation on materials and style, the handmaking of the custom frame and mount, assembly, packaging and even delivery.

Choosing the frame and style

I have an extensive catalogue of wood mouldings to choose from, alongside some old faithfuls and common styles which I can rely on. These range from simplistic black woods to natural grains to ornate and coloured statement pieces. Wide frames can give weight to a piece while a deep or box frame can give the weight and presence needed for a picture surrounded by an expanse of wall.

Mounts are cut to size, as big or small as you like. Changing the width of a mount can give space to an artwork, or save space if you are running out of room on your wall. Multiple window and coloured mounts are also available for more specific commissions. For textiles, paintings and delicate pieces, a float mount and box frame offers space between artwork and glass and lets the artwork shine as the centre of attention.

Most importantly, artworks are unique so any style and combination of materials can work! With my artistic advice I will give you as much guidance as you like.
